Pepper trees will be eradicated in city right-of-ways

Aug. 3, 2015

The city's efforts to eradicate Brazilian Pepper trees along city right-of-ways will begin the week of August 3rd. The first phase of the project will begin between Florida's Turnpike east to the St. Lucie River and from Southbend Blvd. north to Archer Ave. Crews will be chemically treating the trees where they stand. Drivers are asked to use caution when near work crews.

Council votes to balance city budget, proposes new property tax rate for next year

The Port St. Lucie City Council concluded its annual summer retreat by voting to bring the city's budget into balance in the upcoming fiscal year. To address the anticipated $8 million general fund deficit, the City's proposed budget reduces expenditures by $1.8 million, eliminates a transfer out of the general fund, and increases the millage rate to 6.6289.
