The City of Port St. Lucie invites the public to a moving 9/11 Memorial Tribute that will include the opening of an exhibition in the Civic Center Art Gallery. The tribute will begin with a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 in the Civic Center’s Village Square. The art exhibit will remain open for two weeks.
The ceremony marking the opening of the exhibit will include several speakers who were directly involved with the aftermath and clean-up at Ground Zero, including an agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a retired member of the New York Police Department Counter-Terrorism Bureau.
Port St. Lucie Police Officer William Harris will perform a song he wrote, entitled “Mama Didn’t Tell Me.” In addition, the St. Lucie West Centennial High School Camerata will perform “American Anthem.”
Assisting in the morning’s ceremonies will be the Southeastern Military Academy, the U.S. Army Junior ROTC and the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion.
Anyone who suffered a personal loss on Sept. 11, 2001 because of the terrorists’ actions that day are invited to be seated in a designated area in Village Square, to honor their loved ones.
The Port St. Lucie Civic Center is located at 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place, on the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and Walton Road.
