Patriot Golf Day weekend celebrations begin on Friday, Sept. 3 at Digital Domain Park and end with a PGA Memorial Golf Tournament at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. There is something for the whole family, golfers and non-golfers alike, as the community kicks off Labor Day weekend.
The weekend begins on Friday, Sept. 3 at Digital Domain Park with events that will last before, during and after the 7 p.m. game. The game will begin with the National Anthem sung by the Avenue D Boys Choir and a special patriotic dance performed by the Florida Arts and Dance Company. The St. Lucie Mets will wear commemorative patriotic hats and uniform tops that will be autographed after the game and auctioned off to raise funds for the Folds of Honor Foundation. Bids will be accepted for the items through Saturday, Sept. 4.
On Saturday, Sept. 4, join Port St. Lucie Mayor Patricia P. Christensen and Council members Linda Bartz and Christopher Cooper at the opening ceremonies marking the 4th Annual Patriot Golf Day. Festivities begin with a one mile walk/run that begins and ends at the PGA Golf Club clock tower.
A parade will then commence from the PGA Village entrance. Close to 250 participants are expected in the parade, including Color Guards from the American Legion Post #318; Patrick Air Force Base; and several local Junior ROTC high school groups. Joining them will be members of the American Legion Riders motorcycle group, members of the St. Lucie Mets, and the Centennial High School Band and more.
The parade will proceed to the PGA Golf Club driving range, where a flag-raising ceremony will take place, accompanied by volleys of authentic WWII-era M-1 rifles, a bugler playing taps and the Avenue D Boys Choir again singing the National Anthem.
After the ceremonies, which are expected to conclude at 10:30 a.m., the PGA Memorial Medal Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start fired from authentic WWII-era M-1 rifles.
