Why: The Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program (PEP) produces estimates of the population for the United States, its states, counties, cities and towns. These estimates are used in federal funding allocations, as survey controls, as denominators for vital rates and per capita time series, and as indicators of recent demographic changes.

Details: Port St. Lucie was the 9th largest city in Florida, with an estimated population of 174,110 in 2014. Currently, it is the 3rd largest city in South Florida and the 8th largest city in the state, surpassing Fort Lauderdale’s population of 178,590.
