Oak Hammock becomes fourth neighborhood community named through the NICE Program
What: The neighborhood community that was temporarily referred to as “Oak Hammock” by some residents officially took that same name after it received more than 40 percent of the 134 votes. The name was selected by residents through the City’s Neighborhood Improvement and Community Engagement Program.
When: The name was officially selected by a majority from ballots received from property owners on December 18, 2017.
Where: Oak Hammock neighborhood is located directly in between Interstate 95 and Florida’s Turnpike, north of the C-24 Canal, south of Crosstown Pkwy, east of I-95, and west of SW Savona Blvd and SW California Blvd (Please refer to attached map for location details.)
Why: The City received 134 ballots back. Oak Hammock received 54 votes, Oak Hammock Crossings received 13 votes, Oak Hammock Estates received 32 votes, and Hidden Oaks received 35 votes. City staff next will work with residents in Oak Hammock who expressed interest in creating a Civic Association. The City desires to engage in long-term planning with its civic associations to be able to more easily communicate to a larger audience and provide functional improvements that each community needs.
