Honors and Accolades roll in for the City of Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE – In recognition of their efforts to carry out the City’s strategic goal to be a high performing organization, staff from the City’s Human Resources, Procurement, Communications and Police departments were all recently honored for excellence in their respective fields.

Today, Port St. Lucie Police Master Sgt. Frank Sabol was named Law Enforcement Communicator of the Year by the Florida Public Relations Association Treasure Coast chapter. As the Police Department’s Public Information Officer, Sabol was recognized for his ability to effectively work with the media.

The Florida Association of Public Procurement Officials Inc. in March recognized the City’s Procurement Department with a 2017 Award for Excellence in Public Procurement. The program is designed to measure innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity, and leadership attributes of the procurement function. The City of Port St. Lucie was one of only 12 agencies recognized with this honor for 2017.

The City’s Human Resources Department recently accepted two honors on behalf of the City. For the second consecutive year, the Florida Department of Health recognized the City as a 2017 Healthy Weight Community Champion. This award honors agencies for efforts for increased physical activity and improved nutrition among employees. On Monday, the Florida Tobacco Cessation Alliance presented a Gold Level Award to the City for its commitment and dedication to employees’ health and wellness. The City has a very aggressive plan in place to help employees quit using tobacco products and break nicotine addiction.

In addition, the City’s Communications Department today won a Judges’ Award from the FPRA of the Treasure Coast for a video news release it created about the Crosstown Parkway Extension Project. The Department also was honored this month with a 2017 Gold Hermes Creative Award for Crisis Communication during Hurricane Matthew. In addition, the City was given an Honorable Mention by the Hermes Creative Awards in the Special Event category for producing the City’s Forum on Race Relations and Inclusion, which was a daylong event held in November 2016. The Hermes Awards are an international competition administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, and the City was among 6,000 entries this year.
