What: Give-A-Tree, Spread-the-Shade Tree Giveaway

When: Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Where: Port St. Lucie Public Works Department, 450 SW Thornhill Drive

Why: The City will give away an assorted variety of 500 trees that are native to Florida at this semi-annual event. Through this giveaway, the Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful Committee aims to protect native plants for future generations and encourage public awareness about the need to maintain Port St. Lucie's natural beauty. Trees are given away on a first-come, first-served basis to City of Port St. Lucie residents (proof of residency will be required.) Gumbo Limbo, Green Buttonwood, Live Oak and Silver Buttonwood trees will be available. The first 500 vehicles also will receive a free t-shirt. Each vehicle will be limited to one tree and one t-shirt.

The Port St. Lucie City Council has challenged residents to plant 185,000 trees in 2018 – one tree for every resident.  Those who plant a new tree are encouraged to log it on the City’s tree map at www.cityofpsl.com/iplant.

Mark your calendar for KPSLB’s next tree giveaway at Sandhill Crane Park, on Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
