Animal emergencies

Work hours

Animal Control Officers work seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. During those hours, the following calls for service are deemed to be emergencies. and residents should dial 9-1-1 to ensure a quick response from an Animal Control Officer:

  • Dog at large (in progress)
  • Injured or sick animal
  • Neglected animal
  • Cruelty to animals
  • Barking complaint in progress
  • Bite incident
  • Wildlife inside a dwelling
  • Alligators (outside of habitat)
  • Venomous snakes on property
  • Orphaned wildlife

After hours

Emergency Animal Control calls that occur after normal working hours are first responded to by the Port Saint Lucie Police Department, so residents should dial 9-1-1 in the following instances. An animal control officer is then called out to the scene if the call meets any of the following criteria: 

  • Vicious dog at large 
  • Injured or sick animal  
  • Severe bite incident 
  • Wildlife inside a dwelling 
  • Alligators (outside of habitat) 
  • Venomous snakes on property 
  • Orphaned wildlife
