Contractor Licensing Division
The CONTRACTOR LICENSING DIVISION is responsible for determining that contractors applying for building permits have either a state license or have been issued a Certificate of Competency by the City's Contractors' Examining and Licensing Board. CONTRACTOR LICENSING also verifies that contractors have obtained required insurance coverage.
Requirements for licensure are almost as varied as the categories. In all cases, the applicant must fill out the required application and be able to prove his/her experience. The amount of experience required ranges from one to four years.
All licenses require that the applicant be tested. The exam required is determined by the applicants trade classification. All required exams for licensure are administered by Thomson Prometric. Requirements for licensure are set forth by the State of Florida, State Statute, Chapter 489.
For more information about licensing requirements or contractor testing call the CONTRACTOR LICENSING DIVISION at 772-871-5132. The Fax number for CONTRACTOR LICENSING is 772-871-5229. The hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
