Fence Requirements

1. No fence shall be of a height greater than six (6) feet from ground level.
2. No fences shall extend beyond the front corner of the building or house.
3. All fences shall be erected inside the property line, maintenance of the property on both sides of the fence shall be the responsibility of the property owner.
4. All fences on property zoned residential shall use the following materials: Chain link, wood, masonry, stone, aluminum, vinyl coated steel or polyester powder steel, ornamental or imitation wood fences. Chicken wire or barbed wire fences are not permitted.
5. Landscape fencing is allowed in the front of a residence and shall not exceed four (4) feet in height. A two-foot break in the fence is required between fence sections of not more then twenty feet in length.  Materials for Landscape fencing shall be limited to wood, masonry or stone.  No permit is required for landscape fencing.

 

In order to obtain a permit for a fence you must fill out a building permit application (available at the bldg department only) and a fence affidavit.  You will also need to provide the building department with a copy of the property survey showing the intended location of the fence and check or cash for $65.00 for the permit fee. 

Fence registrations are issued while you wait.  If the fence is being utilized as a pool enclosure/barrier, then you will need to fill out a pool alarm affidavit. The permit will be sent to plan review to be reviewed for Code Compliance.  You will be called when the permit is ready for pick-up.
