Inspections Division
HURRICANE SHUTTERS:
As a reminder, all opening protections (hurricane shutters) for new construction requires an inspection (opro-4202). Opening protection affidavits are no longer accepted.
The Field Inspection Division is directly responsible for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City of Port St. Lucie through qualified field inspections. Each inspection determines that plan and code requirements are met on all new construction.
Field inspectors have specialties in areas such as air conditioning and heating, electrical, plumbing, and roofing and framing. All inspectors have experience in the construction industry and hold from one to six individual inspector certifications issued by the Southern Building Code Congress International, the State of Florida, or the Council of American Building Officials.
The City of Port St. Lucie Building Department has developed a computer network using several computer programs that interface with each other enabling permits, inspections and records to be automated. The Automated Inspection Request System or "AIRS", is one part of the system that the Building Department here has earned accolades for having developed. It has earned a reputation for being one of the most successfully operated automated inspection systems out of approximately 400 other building departments nationwide.
"AIRS" is a computerized building inspection information system developed to efficiently place accurate information at the fingertips of Contractors, Inspectors and Homeowners. By following a simple touch-tone telephone procedure, an inspection can be requested, results can be obtained and building permit status can be obtained. The system provides up to the minute inspection information, called in by inspectors as each inspection is performed. The system in on-line 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Any inspection called in to the computer before 9 p.m., will automatically be scheduled for the following workday.
