City lowers fees for building permits
Posted: Oct. 6, 2009
In response to the economic downturn in the city’s construction industry, the Port St. Lucie Building Department has reduced building permit fees for residential and commercial projects.
City Building Official Joel Dramis said the lower fees are a response to changing building valuations and costs, which are published twice a year by the International Code Council.
Permit fees for residential and commercial construction are based on the type of construction, use of the building and the total square footage of the structure. The reduced permit fees will apply to single-family residences, townhouses and commercial construction.
Though savings can vary widely as building values vary, on a typical 75,000 square-foot warehouse, the new rates will be reduced by approximately $2,500. Florida statutes require all permit fees collected by the city to be used solely for carrying out the local government’s responsibilities of enforcing the Florida Building Code.
