The Field Inspection Division is directly responsible for the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of residents through qualified field inspections. Each inspection determines that plan and code requirements are met on all new construction.
Field inspectors have specialties in areas such as air conditioning and heating, electrical, plumbing, and roofing and framing. All inspectors have experience in the construction industry and hold from one to six individual inspector certifications issued by the Southern Building Code Congress International, the State of Florida, or the Council of American Building Officials.

The Building Department has developed a computerized building inspection information system that enables automated searches for permits, inspections, and records. The so-called Automated Inspection Request System (AIRS) is one of the most successful automated inspection systems developed by the more than 400 other building departments nationwide.

AIRS puts accurate information at the fingertips of contractors, inspectors, and homeowners. By following a simple touch-tone telephone procedure, an inspection can be requested, results can be obtained and building permit status can be obtained. The system provides up-to-the-minute inspection information, called in by inspectors as each inspection is performed. The system in available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Any inspection called in to the computer before 9 p.m., will automatically be scheduled for the following workday.
To access AIRS via phone, dial (772) 871-5270, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
