I was born and raised in Queens, NY, and come from a background enriched with culture and tradition. Some say I resemble the patriarch from the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” I have always been quite proud of my Greek heritage, and my two daughters and two sons never escaped a teachable moment about their culture and language.
It wasn’t until I was in my early forties when I learned to drive. My move to the neon lights of Las Vegas forced me to give up the subway in the “city that never sleeps” for a Plymouth Fury. What Las Vegas has in excitement, it lacks in public transportation. Nevertheless, being able to drive allowed me the freedom to pursue my career in the insurance business.
As a “people” person, the insurance business created a great outlet for me to not only meet new faces, but also to educate others about insurance while helping them to make positive choices about their security.
Three years ago, I left the bright lights of Las Vegas for a quieter, less iridescent town in Florida. Concluding a thirty-four year career in insurance, I looked forward to retirement. Much of my time has been spent fulfilling my interests in folk dancing, ballroom dancing and playing softball. I also enjoy refurbishing figurines.
After the initial excitement of being a new homeowner in a new city, decorating and re-decorating, I decided to give some of my time back to the city and that is what led me to volunteer at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center.
In closing, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to decorate your wall. The Civic Center is a fun place to meet and greet and has been extremely satisfying. Working and interacting with my co-workers brings me great pleasure. My joy with the Civic Center is participating in special events and guest services, lending a hand with both colleagues and guests. My plan is to stay as long as I am needed.
Once again, thank you for this award.
