Volunteer of the 1st Quarter 2010

Susan Lee Mazer

Susan MazerOur Volunteer of the First Quarter 2010, Susan Lee Mazer, was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. After attending the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore, she joined the Peace Corps in 1966.

For four years, Susan was a Peace Corps volunteer in Bucaramanga, Colombia, South America where she trained future teachers. She also taught primary grades at the American school, Colegio Panamericano in Bucaramanga before returning to the United States in 1974.

Upon her return to the states, Susan worked in the export department of Crown Cork and Seal in Baltimore. In 1980, Susan moved to Chicago, Illinois, to work as a Customer Service Representative for the Morton Salt Company. In 1994, Susan, along with 12 other team members, became a member of the Salt Crystal Society, the highest award given to a Morton Salt employee. After 22 years of employment, Susan retired from Morton.

During her time in Chicago, Susan was an active member of her synagogue. She turned her hobby of imprinted promotional products into a business that she successfully managed for 18 years. While in Chicago, she met her life partner, Jan Norton, and in 2004, Jan and Susan moved to Port St. Lucie to be closer to Susan’s family.

Susan enjoyed participating in the Port St. Lucie Civic Center’s Grand Opening in December 2008. In April 2009, Susan joined the Civic Center Guest Services Volunteer Program.

“Volunteering has always been a very important and rewarding part of my life. I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend at the Civic Center on Tuesday mornings at the Guest Services Desk. This affords me the opportunity to not only meet, but also help, those people that walk through our doors.”
