I was born in 1946 in the Bronx, New York. As a teenager, I sang with my brother, Emil, and three other guys in an A cappella group called “The Concepts.” In 1964, we recorded a record with ABC Paramount and also recorded a commercial for Thom McCann Shoes, which was aired frequently on several radio stations.
I worked at various jobs to put myself through school and attended Hunter College for both my Bachelor of Arts and my Masters. I was an art major with an education minor and got my Masters in Elementary Education.
In 1966, at 19 years old, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, Jaime, and continued to go to school day and night for nine years to earn my degrees. I began teaching elementary school in 1971. I taught all subject areas and also taught art for ten years. Near the end of my career, I became a Reading Specialist and worked with at-risk children, as well as doing various administrative tasks.
In 2002, I retired and moved to Port St. Lucie where my daughter was already living. I immediately auditioned and began singing with an oldies/doo wop group called “Sha-Boom.” I also sang with “The Renditions” after leaving “Sha-Boom.” I sang for about six years all over the Treasure Coast and the West Palm areas and loved every minute of it! I am not performing at the present time, but would love to. That is my passion.
I live with Tootsie and Chico, my hilarious and entertaining parrots, Tobie, my poodle and Gracie, my Lhasa Apso. I play in a scrabble club weekly and, of course, volunteer at the Civic Center twice a week.
I fully enjoy being a volunteer at the Civic Center. Meeting and greeting people on a Monday morning is a great way to start the week and working at the Guest Services Desk is an enjoyable way to spend Wednesday afternoons! It has been a pleasure to meet and get to know my fellow volunteers, as well as the supportive and lovely people that are employed here.
