Meteorologist Steve Weagle stops at Civic Center while raising money for good cause

WPTV Channel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle’s annual 120-mile bike trek brought him, for the first time, to the Port St. Lucie Civic Center on Tuesday, June 1, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Domenick’s Catering. The event that day became part of the station’s live news report at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m.
During one of the live broadcasts, Domenick's presented Steve with a check for $1,000 for this worthy cause.
The total amount raised for the Red Cross from the event was $52,110, including $12,500 raised for the Palm Beaches-Treasure Coast region of the American Red Cross from an auction of Steve’s bicycle.
This was Steve’s 11th annual Ride for the Red Cross. He makes the long trip each year, biking from Sebastian to Boca Raton, to bring awareness of the hurricane season for the American Red Cross North.
Although the subject is serious, Steve’s ride was a lot of fun. Many came out to support him at the Civic Center, including Port St. Lucie City Council members Christopher Cooper and Linda Bartz; Donald Freedland, director of the city’s Public Works Department; volunteers with the American Red Cross; employees of Dominick’s Catering; and members of the community.
