In the first quarter of 2010, volunteers at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center donated more than 1,000 hours of their time, saving the city an estimated $12,301 in personnel costs.
On Tuesday, April 20, Susan Mazer was surprised with the Volunteer of the Quarter Award during a ceremony honoring these special volunteers. The ceremony was held during Bach’s Lunch, a free monthly concert in the Civic Center’s Terrace Lobby on the third Tuesday of every month. This month’s performance was by Rock Bottom, a lively group that played “light” rock and roll for those in attendance.
Ms. Mazer, known as “Tuesday Morning Sue” to regular Civic Center visitors, warmly greets residents and tourists alike when they enter the front doors of the beautiful Civic Center. It’s obvious to anyone who asks that she loves her volunteer work at the Civic Center.
The Guest Services program, which includes Ms. Mazer, is staffed with 24 active volunteers. An additional five volunteers work in the Recreation Center and three more in the Fitness Center.
Since the Civic Center opened in December 2009, it is estimated these volunteers have saved the City of Port St. Lucie a total of $51,156 in personnel costs.
More volunteers are always welcome. To hear Ms. Mazer will speak about what her volunteer work means to her, watch out for PSL-TV20’s May edition of “Highlights”, which will begin airing May 1.
“Highlights” airs on PSL-TV20 for Comcast and Hometown cable subscribers, and may also be viewed on the this Web site. Go to the archived shows and meeting page and use the pull-down menu to access current or previously-aired “Highlights” episodes.
