With construction beginning on Port St. Lucie’s Sept. 11 Memorial outside the Civic Center, the city is seeking monetary donations to help construct the project on an ambitious schedule.
The City Council chose a memorial design in May after listening to public input on three designs that were submitted by a volunteer architect. While much of the work on the project is being done by skilled volunteers from various trades, there are other expenses associated with the work.
The memorial will hold an 11-foot piece of World Trade Center steel that was donated to the city last year by USA 9/11 First Responders, Inc. It will be unveiled during a Sept. 11 remembrance service later this year.
Anyone interested in donating is asked to call Civic Center Administrator Tonya Taylor at (772) 871–5092. Checks should be made payable to the "City of Port St. Lucie."
