The highly-anticipated grand opening celebrations for the Port St. Lucie Civic Center will be launched on Monday, Dec. 1, when local dignitaries officiate at the center's ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Mayor Patricia Christensen and City Council members will do the ribbon-cutting honors.
The 100,000 square-foot multi-purpose Civic Center, considered the anchor for the city's new downtown development, is located at 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place, on the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and Walton Road. The complex consists of an Art Gallery; the Emerald Ballroom, a 13,464 square-foot facility already booked to host expos, weddings and more; the Ruby Conference Hall, a 5,790 square-foot venue that is perfect for meetings, conferences and parties; recreational and fitness facilities, including a full-court gymnasium; a game room, an activity room for children and more. Directly in front of the impressive entrance to the Civic Center is Village Square, an outdoor arena with a large stage that will host After 5 Live events, to be held the second Friday of every month from 5:30 to 8:30 with live music and fun for the whole family. The popular Green Market will take place in Village Square every Tuesday from Dec. through the end of May. The Village Square will be the site for year-round festivities, beginning with the popular Festival of Lights on Saturday, Dec. 6, beginning at noon.
