The beautiful photographs, taken by Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers photographers, would melt any parent’s heart. The children in the photos, however, don’t have parents, and the Children’s Home Society of Florida wants to change that.
The Heart Gallery is a traveling exhibition of photographs of Treasure Coast children seeking a “forever home,” and is the result of a partnership between the Children’s Home Society, Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County and Scripps. Currently in foster care and available for adoption, the children have agreed to be part of the exhibit, with the hope that someone will see something pretty special in their smiles and give them a permanent home. The Heart Gallery is currently on exhibit in the lobby of Port St. Lucie’s Civic Center, located at 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place, at the corner of U.S. 1 and Walton Road.
According to Frank Avilla, Heart Gallery coordinator for the Children’s Home Society, the photographs of approximately 40 children are on display, including groups of siblings. Mr. Avilla said since the Heart Gallery began, the Children’s Home Society has made placements for many of the children photographed.
“It’s been successful, and we couldn’t be happier,” he said.
The Heart Gallery will be on exhibit at the Civic Center until Sunday, Jan. 4.
