Fáilte (welcome) to the 2009 St. Patrick’s Day celebrations

Posted: January 28, 2009

This year, Port St. Lucie will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day with more than one celebration. The two-day St. Patrick's Day events begin with After 5 Live! on Friday, March 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs to Village Square at the Civic Center, and enjoy a warm night, the company of friends and neighbors and great live music by the Rowdy Micks.

The next day, the Friendly Sons and Daughters of Ireland invite all to take part in the 20th annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival, to be held on Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Civic Center’s Village Square.

Everyone loves a parade, and this festival will be no exception.  The St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 11 a.m.  After that, live music from the Irish band Lablynch Mob will get everyone, Irish or not, in the spirit of the holiday.  Enjoy traditional Irish cuisine and other culinary delights while watching Irish dancers and visiting all the arts and crafts displays.   There will be plenty for the kids to do, too.  And who knows, perhaps you’ll spot a leprechaun or two.

Download a flyer showing the parade route.

Admission to both events is free, and so is the ample parking.  Village Square is located on the grounds of the Civic Center, 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place, on the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and Walton Road.

Planning for events as grand as Port St. Lucie’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations takes a lot of time, so we aren’t full of blarney when we tell folks that vendors are needed now to help make this year’s festivities a complete success.
