Workers available to help with storm clean-up -- free

Posted: September 3, 2008

Private Non-Profit Agencies in St. Lucie County that had damage from Tropical Storm Fay and need labor for cleanup and restoration work may be eligible for help from the Treasure Coast Workforce Development Board.  The Board recently received a National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to supply temporary workers for cleanup and restoration.

The workers are people who have been displaced from their jobs by the storm, or who have experienced long-term unemployment.  Salaries, workers compensation and some health benefits will be paid for by the grant.

In addition, the state has applied for a special program that would provide $5,000 to businesses, including non-profits, damaged by the storm for the replacement of furniture and equipment.

Agencies in St. Lucie County that need assistance can call 1 (866) 482-4473.
