The St. Lucie County Health Department is asking Port St. Lucie residents to take precautions to help limit mosquito bites and exposure to mosquito-borne illnesses, such as West Nile virus.
They recommend draining standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying, covering skin with clothing or repellent, and covering doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out.
When outdoors at dusk or dawn, residents should be cautious as mosquitoes are most active during these times, and parents should remember to protect children as well.
