Florida’s Blood Centers and the Van Duzer Foundation have challenged local businesses and organizations to recruit the most blood donors during the 2012 "Be a Hero Day” blood drive on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the times and locations listed below.
In a friendly challenge, the cities of Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County will compete again this year to see which organization can donate the most blood. Last year, the city brought home the trophy and hopes to do so again with the help of its residents and employees.
All Port St. Lucie residents are strongly encouraged to help their fellow citizens by donating if possible. Remember to use account number M2T5 when you donate so that Team PSL receives credit for the donation.
Be a Hero Day was started in 2009 by the Van Duzer Foundation and Florida’s Blood Centers. In 2010 the event spread statewide, and more than 1,300 donors were recruited. This year's goal is to obtain 2,000 pints of blood, which has the potential to save as many as 6,000 lives.
Here are the locations and times where you can donate on Wednesday, Nov. 14:
