Yellow dots help fire district find vital medical information

Posted: June 7, 2012

ST. LUCIE COUNTY—The St. Lucie County Fire District, along with the St. Lucie County Health Department, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, St. Lucie Medical Center, and the American Red Cross, recently launched the Yellow Dot Program. Similar to the Vial of Life, the program is designed to help first responders have access to vital medical information in case of a vehicle accident.

Here’s how it works

  • The resident/driver, receives a Yellow Dot Package, which includes a yellow envelope, a medical form, and a yellow dot
  • The person simply completes a medical form and places it in the yellow envelope and then places the envelope in the glove compartment of their vehicle
  • They place a yellow dot on the rear window (lower left corner) of the vehicle to alert first responders about the medical information in their glove compartment

“This information will assist in expediting patient care, which in turn will improve the patient’s outcome,” explained Fire Chief Ron Parrish.

The packets were printed by the Health Department and are available at St. Lucie County Fire Stations or the American Red Cross.
