Airoso Boulevard to be detoured at Calmoso Drive for emergency sewer pipe repair

City Manager Don Cooper has authorized the emergency replacement of approximately 750 feet of aging 8-inch gravity sewer main along Airoso Boulevard. The main is located within the median between Calmoso Drive and Selva Court and was originally installed in the early 1960s.

The project is considered an emergency because the subject portion of main, as well as certain customer service laterals connected to the main, has failed.

The Utility has coordinated with the city's Engineering Department on a maintenance of traffic plan, and a detour will be in put in place Thursday. The detour will remain for the duration of the project, which is expected to be complete by Thanksgiving.

The southbound detour will utilize Calmoso east to Sandia, then south on Sandia to Lakehurst, and then west on Lakehurst back to Airoso. The northbound detour will use the same streets in reverse.

It is anticipated that construction crews will be working 12-hour days, 7 days a week, so drivers are asked to use caution in the area and to allow extra time for delays. It also would help to find an alternate route if possible.
