City Council shares ideas with Chinese Delegation
Nov 2, 2007
The Port St. Lucie City Council this week met a delegation of eight officials from the Chinese City of Putuo to share ideas on how to provide local government in a rapidly growing city.
Like Port St. Lucie, Putuo has experienced explosive growth in recent years, and officials t
here are managing problems similar to those locally. The delegation asked a variety of questions of the Council, and talked to representatives from the St. Lucie County School District and local health care officials.
They were given a tour of the western part of the city, where growth is heaviest, and the Putuo officials gave Mayor Patricia P. Christensen and the Council a traditional scroll with Chinese lettering advocating honor for government officials.
The Council also introduced the delegation to Dr. Richard Houghten of the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, which is helping Port St. Lucie establish a world-class biotech research center in the city’s Tradition development, west of I-95.
