Community race and walk to help niece of PSL police officer

Posted: Oct. 16, 2009

Skylar SchichtelThe Port St. Lucie Police Department, Core Communities and the Sailfish Striders running club have joined forces to benefit Skylar Schichtel, a local teenager whose father, Scott Schichtel, died in a scuba diving accident in July. Scott was the brother of Port St. Lucie Police Sgt. Rick Schictel.

Skylar, a bright young woman who attends Fort Pierce Westwood High School, where she serves as band captain, is a talented public speaker who hopes to attend college.

To help Skylar achieve that dream, the community has organized a 5K run and one mile fun walk for Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Tradition Square. The event will take place as part of November’s WestFest celebration at Tradition.

The registration fee is $20.
