Summary of Dec. 3 Port St. Lucie City Council Meeting
At their Dec. 3 meeting, the Port St. Lucie City Council:
Delayed for six months a vote on whether to implement a new ordinance that would make it unlawful for the St. Lucie County School Board to put bus stops on major roadways that don’t have sidewalks.
Rejected a motion by Vice Mayor Jack Kelly to move forward with a proposal to establish a citizens’ budget review committee. The Council will wait until Florida residents vote on a potential change to state property tax rules before considering a review committee any further.
Gave a first approval to a proposed ordinance that will create a permit requirement for residents to place garage sale signs on public property and will limit the number of signs for a special event to 100.
Agreed to give a parcel of land in the LTC Ranch industrial park in exchange for specific commitments for the company to bring 50 high-paying jobs to the city. Felix Associates also was considered for the property grant.
The next meeting of the City Council is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. when the Council will meet as the Community Redevelopement Agency. They will hold a regular Council meeting immediately following the CRA meeting.
