Darwin Boulevard Detours Necessary for Road Improvements
Darwin Boulevard is now closed between Tamworth and Bill Traitel Avenue to allow for major improvements to drainage and traffic flow in front of Whispering Pines Park, Windmill Point Elementary and Treasure Coast High School.
The work is being done to correct serious flooding problems that created traffic hazards and made getting to the schools and the park difficult during heavy rain falls. In addition to the flooding corrections, crews are adding a sidewalk to the north side of the street. and are widening the intersections to make turning safer. Darwin will continue to be a two-lane road.

The $1.8 million project involves several temporary detours, including the rerouting of park and school traffic around the back of the Darwin Square shopping plaza to Tunis Avenue, and the rerouting of Belmont Circle traffic in the Villas of Rosewood to Landale Boulevard and Bridgeport Drive. Temporary dirt driveways have been installed to get into Windmill Point Elementary and Whispering Pines Park from Tunis.
The city asks all drivers in the area to be alert to the detour signs, which will make commutes through the area safer and more convenient.
The work will be going on until the middle of January, so drivers are advised to plan extra time to allow for the delays, which are considerable. For additional details about the work, contact the Public Works Department at (772) 871-5100.
