Donate a pint of blood and get a pint of ice cream

Posted: July 15, 2009

There’s nothing like cold ice cream on a hot summer’s day. And there’s nothing like donating a pint of blood to save a life. Experience the wonderful feelings that come with both as Florida’s Blood Centers conducts blood drives from Tuesday, July 28 to Thursday, July 30 at various city locations.

The schedule for the blood mobiles is:

  • Tuesday, July 28 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Port St. Lucie’s Utilities Department, 900 S.E. Ogden Lane.
  • Tuesday, July 28 from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the city’s Public Works Department, 450 S.W. Thornhill Drive
  • Wednesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, at City Hall, 121 S.W. Port St. Lucie Blvd.

All donors will receive a free pint of ice cream, courtesy of Florida’s Blood Centers.

According to Tracey Skinner, donor development coordinator for the Port St. Lucie branches of Florida’s Blood Centers, many people who would like to donate blood often do not because they believe they have a medical condition that prevents them from donating. However, there are many misconceptions about this, and residents can attend the blood drive to find out if they are eligible to donate blood.
