Learn to protect yourself from identify theft, work-at-home scams, credit card skimming devices and a host of other crimes at the Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Public Fraud Prevention Seminar, scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.
To be held at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 S.E. Airoso Blvd., the free seminar is intended to warn residents of a variety of crimes by fraud and to offer tips on how to protect against such crimes. Police Chief Donald Shinnamon is scheduled to speak at the event.
According to police Detective Wade Willnow, fraudulent crimes are a $60 billion problem per year nationwide. He said the goal of the seminar is to protect and educate citizens, especially since criminals perpetrating fraud are becoming more creative and getting better at manipulating people.
There is no cost to attend the event, but seating is limited. For more information, contact the Community Center at (772) 878-2277 or the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5000.
