The Port St. Lucie City Council will hold its annual summer retreat meetings next week on Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18. The meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. both days at the Community Center, 2195 Airoso Boulevard. The Council is expected to hear from city managers, department heads and consultants about projections for the city’s finances and budget for fiscal year 2008/2009.
Though the public is welcome to attend, there will be no public comment period like at regular Council meetings.
The Council meets twice a year in special two-day sessions to hear from city management and department heads about long-term goals and projects, and to evaluate progress made in the previous year. This summer’s meeting are of particular importance because of recent changes in the state’s property tax laws and the city-wide devaluation in property values caused by the housing slowdown and the impact those events will have on the budgeting process.
