Finance Department wins excellence award for 18th straight year
Posted: Oct. 19, 2009
The City of Port St. Lucie’s Finance Department has been recognized for excellence and professionalism in the way the department accounts for public money. It is the 18th straight year the department received this recognition.
The Government Finance Officer’s Association chose the city for the special recognition because of the high quality of the city’s 2008 comprehensive annual financial report. The GFOA is a professional association of state and local finance officers in the United States and Canada, with 16,000 members involved in training, publishing, consulting and lobbying.
In notifying Mayor Patricia Christensen of the award, Stephen Gauthier, Director of GFOA, said, “The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
A plaque noting the accomplishment will be sent to Marcia Dedert, the city’s finance director, for display at City Hall.
