Hazardous household waste drop-off day set for Saturday, July 26

The City of Port St. Lucie and the Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful Committee will hold another free Hazardous Household Waste Drop-Off Day on Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. to noon, at the city’s Public Works complex, located at the southwest corner of Bayshore Boulevard and Thornhill Drive.
The event makes it easy for residents to get rid of unwanted household chemicals and waste by providing a convenient place and time where the materials can be handed over to experts—free of charge—for proper disposal.
Items accepted:
- Automotive fluids
- Batteries
- Bug sprays
- Computers
- Drain cleaners
- Fuels
- Fluorescent light bulbs
- Herbicides
- Insecticides
- Lighter fluid
- Oil-based paint
- Mercury-filled thermometers and thermostats
- Propane tanks
- Solvent/thinners
- Tires
Items not accepted:
- Water-based/latex paint
- Ammunition
- Bio-hazard/medical waste
- Explosives
- Sharps
- Containers larger than 5 gallons
To dispose of unacceptable items, residents should call the county’s solid waste division to make special arrangements. The number is (772) 462-1624.
