| Watch a brief video about Port St. Lucie's Wholesale Tree Buying Program 1 minute, 55 seconds |
Port St. Lucie residents may obtain a variety of trees at wholesale prices, through a contract the city has with Nature’s Keeper. Residents may contact Nature’s Keeper at (772) 467-1230 anytime throughout the year to place an order for a specific tree or trees. Get detailed information about pricing.
The city has arranged to have samples of each of the trees offered for sale available for viewing at the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens.
There is no limit on the number of trees that each resident can purchase, but residents should have a plan as to where the tree(s) will be planted to ensure that the space chosen takes into consideration the growth of the tree(s). Learn more about planting the right tree in the right place from Florida Power and Light.
Currently, residents may only obtain the trees through this program by calling (rather than visiting in person) Nature’s Keeper. However, residents who are unsure of what type of tree they wish to purchase may wait for one of the city’s quarterly tree sales, dates and times for which will be publicized on this Web site and on the city's Web calendar.
The Nature’s Keeper Program is in addition to the the city's annual free tree giveaways. The contract with Nature’s Keeper allows for the purchase of trees that are of a much larger size and therefore, have a more immediate impact on residents’ properties. In addition, there is a wider variety of trees available through the Nature’s Keeper program.
The University of Florida provides some excellent tips on tree planting, including site selection, plant/tree selection, staking, irrigation, fertilizing, mulching, and pruning.
This comprehensive instructional video featuring Anita Neal, St. Lucie County Environmental Horticulture Agent, will guide you through the tree planting process with emphasis on the three Ps: "Prepare, Plant and Preserve."
