Port St. Lucie households and businesses can expect to have their trash picked up on New Year’s Day, even though Waste Pro’s contract allows for the suspension of collection that day.
The City of Port St. Lucie has a contract with Waste Pro, a private company, to haul all household garbage, recyclables, yard clippings, bulk items and other trash from every property in the city. Waste Pro services are available for all residential and commercial properties.
“Although our contract allows for the suspension of collection on certain days, we feel the residents would be better served to just continue collection on those days and dispose of the waste on the following day when the landfill reopens,” said Russell Mackey, the senior regional vice president of Waste Pro.
There are only three days throughout the year when Waste Pro does not collect trash; the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
