PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. – John Dunton, Manager of Environmental Services, Port St. Lucie Public Works Department, was named the Florida Chapter American Public Works Association (APWA) Member of the Year for 2016 at the Florida Public Works Expo on April 21.
“Mr. Dunton was honored with two very prestigious awards at the recent 2016 APWA Expo, including the Florida APWA Member of the Year, for his dedication, contribution and achievements in support of the APWA National, State and Professional Goals,” said Port St. Lucie Assistant City Manager Patricia Roebling (pictured with John). “This truly is a great honor for Mr. Dunton, as well as for the City of Port St. Lucie. Congratulations John!”
Mr. Dunton joined Port St. Lucie Public Works in November 1985 as a maintenance worker and moved up through the ranks to his current position as Manager of Environmental Services. During his 30-year career here, John has furthered his education studying aquatics, advanced maintenance of traffic and stormwater, and is currently working towards his Associates Degree. He is a certified ISA Arborist and OSHA Incident Commander.
The Port St. Lucie Public Works Department was the first nationally Accredited Public Works Agency in the state of Florida and eighth in the nation. The APWA Accreditation program provides a means of formally verifying and recognizing public works agencies for their compliance with the recommended practices set forth in the Public Works Management Practices Manual. It’s a voluntary, self-motivated approach to objectively evaluate, verify and recognize compliance with the recommended management practices.
