2017 Summer Junior Basketball Program

Registration for the 2017 Summer Junior Basketball Program will begin on Saturday, March 4 at 8 a.m. At that time, you can either register online or in person at any of these facilities: Civic Center, Community Center or Minsky Gym.

If you're registering online, please read the detailed instructions we've provided to familiarize yourself with that process.

The Summer Junior Basketball season will run from April 2017 through July 2017 and will be held at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center, Minsky Gym in Whispering Pines Park, and various school sites.

Please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate when registering.

Fees

  • Instructional Division: $49.90
  • Regular Program Fee: $78
  • Coaching rate: $62
  • Multiple children in same family: $73

 

Instructional Division

The Instructional Division is designed to give beginner basketball players ages 6 and 7 an opportunity to develop skills and learn the basics of basketball. This Division consists of 10 practices held once per week. This is not a league.

Minsky Gym – Practices will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. beginning on Thursday May 4.

Port St. Lucie Civic Center – Practices will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, May 9.

 

Player evaluation schedule

(Ages as of May 6, 2017)

Evaluations for the divisions will be held as follows:

Boys and Girls Dribblers Division (Port St. Lucie Civic Center Gym)

Dribblers Division—Boys ages 8 and 9 and Girls ages 8 to 10 will be held on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m.


Boys Division (Minsky Gym)

Lower Division—Ages 10 to 11 (Last names A-L) will be held Saturday, April 1, at 2:30 p.m.
Lower Division—Ages 10 to 11 (Last names M-Z) will be held Saturday, April 1, at 4:00 p.m.
Middle Division*—Ages 12 to 14 (Last names A-D) will be held Saturday, April 1 at 8 a.m.
Middle Division*—Ages 12 to 14 (Last names E-N) will be held Saturday, April 1 at 9:30 a.m.
Middle Division*—Ages 12 to 14 (Last names O-Z) will be held Saturday, April 1 at 11 a.m.

*Boys that are 14 years old may be eligible to play in the Upper Division. Please contact Minsky Gym for more information.

Upper Division—Ages 15 to 17 will be held Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m.

 

Girls Division (Minsky Gym)

Middle Division—Ages 11 to 15 will be held Saturday, April 1 at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Port St. Lucie Civic Center is located at 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place (southeast corner of U.S. Highway 1 and Walton Road) and Minsky Gym is located at 750 S.W. Darwin Blvd.

Volunteer coaches needed

With the continued expansion of the Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Junior Basketball Program, Volunteer Head and Assistant Coaches, and Volunteer Scorekeepers are needed more than ever. Nearly 900 players ages 6 to 17 participate in this program year round.

For parents and family members of players, coaching a team is a great way to spend more time with your child while they enjoy their favorite sport. Anyone passionate about basketball is encouraged to volunteer their time and help make this popular program successful.

Volunteer coaches must be 18 years of age or older and score keepers must be 16 years of age or older. All volunteers must fill out an application and undergo an FDLE Level II background clearance process.
