The mission of the Parks and Recreation Department is to enhance the quality of life in Port St. Lucie by providing programs and facilities that will facilitate a resident’s pursuit of culture and recreation in a safe and enjoyable setting. We will pursue this goal with the understanding of contributing to the attractiveness of the community, conservation of the environment and the social and economic health of the city.
This landmark civil rights legislation went into effect Jan. 26, 1992. It is a significant step forward in the effort to make our society’s services and opportunities fully available to all by combating barriers and prejudices that confront those with special challenges and needs. The City of Port St. Lucie is committed to implementing the intent and spirit of this legislation. Those who may need assistance in order to enjoy our programs should contact our offices, so that we may arrange for their assistance.
The Parks and Recreation Department staff has made every effort to provide accurate information about events and classes in online content and published materials; however, errors may occur. In addition, circumstances may require that adjustments be made to programs, fees, schedules, etc., and we reserve the right to make any such adjustments. The Parks and Recreation Department apologizes for any inconvenience such errors or adjustments may cause.
For the most current information available, call the Parks and Recreation Department at (772) 878-2277, the Civic Center at (772) 807-4488 or check the city's interactive calendar online.
Your satisfaction is important to us. All refund requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Requests must be submitted in writing within 30 days of the first class meeting date for a class that meets more than once. If a registrant attends more than one class, no refunds will be given. If the city cancels a program or class, refunds will be issued. All summer camp refunds will be subject to a $15 refund fee. Refunds may take up to three weeks to process.
Please do not ask to have your child put in a class he or she does not belong in. All age requirements are set to benefit the children and to make instruction easier for the program leader. In some instances, age requirements have been set for your child’s safety. Thank you for your cooperation.
All Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed, and all classes cancelled, on city holidays. Some classes may be cancelled on school holidays. Please check with your instructor or call the appropriate facility if you have a question. City holidays are also noted on the city's events calendar.
In addition, classes must sometimes be cancelled due to lack of interest. Occasionally, excellent courses with superb instructors are cancelled simply because interested participants wait until the last minute to register (such decisions to cancel are made approximately three days prior to the course start date, if minimum class numbers are not met). Please register early to avoid this disappointment for yourself and others.
Registration for many of our recreation activities can be done at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 S.E. Airoso Blvd. (across from City Hall); the Minsky Gymnasium, 750 S.W. Darwin Blvd.; or the Port St. Lucie Civic Center, 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place (on the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and Walton Road). Registration for summer camps and neighborhood playgrounds, along with park reservations, may only be done at the Port St. Lucie Community Center. If we do not have enough registrations to hold a class or program, we reserve the right to cancel or postpone it. All registered participants will be notified and given a complete refund if a program is cancelled. Once a program is full, registrations will be closed.
To ensure your participation in a program, contact the appropriate office in order to determine registration procedures. No phone registrations will be accepted. Pre-registration is suggested, as most of our classes are limited in size. We accept cash, money orders and checks made payable to the City of Port St. Lucie. We also accept Visa, American Express, Discover and MasterCard.
In the event that a parent or guardian is unable to register their child(ren) for a class or program, our policy allows that parent or guardian to designate one other adult to register the child(ren) on the parent or guardian’s behalf.
The adult who is designated by the parent or guardian for registration purposes may also register their own child(ren) for classes or programs.
However, only a parent or guardian is permitted to sign the required waiver for their child(ren) before the class or program begins.
