Planning and Zoning Department Workshops will help Community understand City’s Architectural Design Standard
The Port St. Lucie Planning and Zoning Department will hold a two-day workshop to inform residents and industry professionals about the city’s architectural building design requirements and about the procedure for changing design standards in the future.
The workshop for professionals from development-related industries is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the city’s Community Center on Airoso Boulevard. The workshop for residents is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 from 2 to 7 p.m., also in the Community Center.
As part of the Design Standards Review process, the Planning and Zoning Department assembled a committee tasked with reviewing and recommending changes to the Citywide Design Standards (CDS). A major part of the review process involves interviews with “stakeholders” from both the public and private sectors for the purpose of gathering information and informed opinions for consideration by the city.
It is expected that citizen and industry professional participation in the process will ensure that citywide design standards are consistent with the community’s needs on future development.
Among topics that will be discussed are whether the city should incorporate “green” design standards or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System certification into the CDS, and if different architectural styles should be allowed for different parts of the city.
