Chief John Skinner
Chief John Skinner has over 30 years of law enforcement experience. A
native of Detroit he began his career as a Detroit Police Officer. After
several years he moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida where he has been a
member of the Port St. L
ucie Police Department and has worked his way
through the ranks and was appointed to his position as Chief of Police in
1996.
Under his leadership the department has been honored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and
has received two of their most distinguished awards. The Community
Policing Award and Webber Seavey Award have given the
department national recognition.
Port St. Lucie is presently the fastest growing city in the United States averaging 60 new residents a day and causing considerable growth challenges, despite that, it has been recognized as having the lowest crime rate in Florida for cities over 75,000 for seven consecutive years.
John has been served as a security consultant with Major League Baseball since 1990, assisting in security education for Major and Minor league personnel.
Chief Skinner holds a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Development from Barry University in Miami. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and a graduate of the FBI ‘s Executive development program at Quantico, Virginia.
