Crime Analysis
The Crime Analysis section conducts professional crime data analysis involving the correlation of information; identification of patterns, trends, and common characteristics; and the underlying causes of crime to assist in the development of law enforcement programs to improve the effectiveness of criminal apprehension and crime prevention. The crime analysts are responsible for developing and implementing effective methods for the selection, assembly and organization of significant criminal activity data to permit effective analysis. They develop valid conclusions and make recommendations for appropriate solutions to improve law enforcement effectiveness.
The crime analysts review police offense reports, traffic crash reports, field interview and interrogation reports, and any other materials available or necessary for the assembly, organization and submission of crime data. The information and data is then correlated and analyzed for the identification of criminal activity trends and patterns.
Crime Analysts Michelle Chitolie and Cheryl Davis currently provide crime data analysis and reporting, special project assistance, and production of crime maps. The reports and analysis they produce are distributed to the appropriate department personnel for knowledge and use in day-to-day planning and STARCOM review. Both are assigned to specific district responsibilities as well as general analysis for other police functions within the department. Analyst Michelle Chitolie is responsible for crime analysis for Patrol Districts 1 and 2. Analyst Cheryl Davis is responsible for crime analysis for Patrol Districts 3 and 4.
