Victims’ Rights Week to include Motorcycle Ride, Community Forum
The Port St. Lucie Police Department is encouraging citizens to take part in the 2008 Victims’ Rights Week, which kicks off Sunday, April 13 with a “Ride for Rights” motorcycle event from the St. Lucie County Courthouse in Fort Pierce to Riverside Park in Vero Beach. The ride begins at 10 a.m. and costs $15 per rider.
Then on Thursday, April 17, there will be a free community forum at 6 p.m. in Port St. Lucie City Hall. A dynamic speaker will talk about the consequences of individual actions and bad choices. Her primary audience has been juveniles who have entered the delinquency system, but other young people and adults will benefit from this powerful presentation.
On Friday, April 18, she will speak at a luncheon at the Port St. Lucie Community Center on Airoso Boulevard, and will tailor her message to that audience. The cost is $25. There will also be a Silent Auction, and an opportunity to network and honor service providers. For more information about any of the Victims’ Rights Week events, call (772) 344-4331.
Underage drinking executive roundtable discussion
Another important event benefiting young people will be a roundtable discussion on how to prevent underage drinking. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Port St. Lucie City Hall. The public is invited, along with elected officials, community leaders, parents, students, agency personnel, businesses, and school officials. For more information, call (772) 871-5880.
