With completion of Phase III of this project, the City of Port St. Lucie Public Works Department recently received a bid to continue the Hurricane Wilma repairs authorized through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) using Emergency Watershed Program funds totaling $2 million. Historically, NRCS assisted with Hurricane Wilma storm repairs to several large water control structure outfalls, vegetation and debris cleanup, and embankment repairs commencing at the C-24 Canal up to Kensington Road.

The planned improvements will remove all vegetation from the canal right-of-way embankment that is owned by the city. The canal will be dredged of sediments to optimize water quality benefits and restore flowage capacity from the FPL transmission right-of-way to Savage Boulevard on the west side. The slopes will then be graded and sodded for ease of future mowing maintenance. The project will also address several cross street headwall improvements at Import Drive, Kensington Drive, and Logwood Road.
The city's consultant, Captec Engineering, provided the city with progress reports on the E-8 Canal project:
