Public Works manages the City's screening operation. The screening operation blends leftover materials from other jobs into re-usable topsoil that saves money and conserves our natural resources. |
The Drainage Division is the largest division in the Public Works Department with over 50 personnel. Their responsibilities include operating the heavy equipment to maintain the 1,600 miles of swale drainage (tertiary system), the 158 miles of Drainage Rights-Of-Way (secondary system) and the 52 miles of Waterways and City owned Canals (primary system) within the City. Also, other duties include installing side lot ditch piping, installing street culverts, eliminating cross-street paved swales and overseeing a contractor that performs many of the same drainage functions as this division. This division completed 240,000 Lineal Feet of swale work last budget year and installs 100 culverts or eliminates cross-street paved swales, and 20 side lot ditches are piped per average year. The storm water utility fee funds this division 100%.
