Tree Removal on St. Lucie West Boulevard needed for Safety
Port St. Lucie Public Works crews have been working in the medians of St. Lucie West Boulevard this week to improve visibility for drivers and safety for pedestrians.
The work includes the removal of 22 trees between Peacock and Cashmere boulevards and will bring the road into compliance with Florida Department of Transportation standards for traffic safety. The standards regulate where trees can be placed in relation to intersections.
City Engineers have been planning to improve visibility along the road since the city acquired the road from the St. Lucie west Services District last year.
The improvements also include the removal and installation of shrubs, the replacement of damaged shrubs and the installation of mulch around the existing landscaped areas. These improvements are intended to provide a safer transportation network, but will maintain a visually attractive landscape in the along the boulevard.
Drivers are asked to use caution when driving near workers in the area.
