The city will soon be able to provide potable water service to more than 80 properties on the south side of Easy Street and to the portions of Cassia Drive, Bamboo Drive, Balsam Drive, Papaya Drive and Yucca Drive that are south of Easy Street. All of these properties are located within Phase 1 of the City’s North U.S. Highway 1 Utility Main Extension project.
The city is committed to water service being available to the Phase 1 properties by the end of this calendar year. However, the ability to keep that commitment is dependent on receiving the required permits from St. Lucie County, the North St. Lucie River Control District, and FPL. So long as regulatory permits are obtained in a timely manner, the following schedule should apply to the Phase 1 project:
Description |
Calendar Days |
Survey, Design, Permitting & Easements |
45 |
Construction |
60 |
Phase 1 total days |
105 |
Once construction is complete and water becomes available, connection to the city’s system will not be mandatory unless a potential customer’s existing well fails or becomes contaminated. Properties connecting to the city’s water system will still be able to use their private wells for irrigation purposes.
Customers will be allowed to participate in the city’s popular 10-year interest free connection fee payback program.
The anticipated single-family residential customer connection fees for 1 Equivalent Residential Connection (ERC) of water capacity with a standard 5/8” x 3/4” water meter will be as follows:
Description |
Fee |
|
Water Plant Capacity Charge |
$926.00 |
|
Water Line Capital Charge |
522.00 |
|
Meter Installation Charge |
544.00 |
|
Security Deposit |
50.00 |
|
Total |
$2,042.00 |

The $2,042.00 total includes all connection and installation costs. The city’s Utility will install the water service and will perform all related construction from the main to the house. Customers will not have to hire a plumber to do any part of their on-site installation.
