How to report speeding and dangerous driving
If this is an emergency, please call 911 to immediately report the problem.
Reporting an Active Dangerous Driver
If you see someone driving in a reckless manner, including swerving, speeding, texting or behaving aggressively, you should call 911. Only call 911 if you feel the driver is posing a danger to other drivers, as 911 is intended for urgent situations. It should not be used for simple motor vehicle violations.
If you do call 911:
- Be sure to pull over first so you stay safe and do not become a danger to others.
- Tell the operator your location, a description of the vehicle and their direction of travel.
- Do not attempt to follow the car or take cell phone pictures as these actions could increase the hazards of the situation.
- Be sure to exercise caution and maintain a safe following distance from the dangerous driver.
If you can safely record the license plate number, state of origin and vehicle make, model and color, this will be useful for police to locate the offender. Before the officer dispatched can take any action, he or she will need to observe a violation or receive a witness report as to a violation, which can be your 911 call.

We'll review your request
PSLPD will investigate your request and follow up with a recommendation. Officers will take your complaint seriously and research the matter. Someone will contact you within two business days to let you know your report has been received.
On a troublesome stretch of roadway, officers may set up a portable radar trailer to make motorists aware of their speed through residential streets. Radar speed signs serve as an extra officer, 24/7. They reinforce speed limit awareness by alerting and educating drivers of excessive speeds.
Under certain circumstances, a traffic study may be needed to provide officers with key data to quantify speeding problems. This allows PSLPD the ability to intelligently deploy limited police staff for enforcement. PSLPD conducts speed enforcement based on substantiated customer tips and locations known for traffic violations and crashes.
In some cases, officers may find that complaints about speeding are not substantiated. Depending on angle, proximity and environment, a vehicle may appear to be going faster than actual movement.
